Auguste Chabaud was born in Nîmes in 1882. At the age of 15, he enters the School of Fine Arts of Avignon, where his master is Pierre Grivolas, who had already trained René Seyssaud.
In the edge of the XXth century, the young man goes to Paris but he prefers the Latin Quarter cafés to the academic lessons of Cormon. In the contact of the continuous show of parisian life, he sharpens his understanding of the world, develops a graphic intelligence which will distinguish him. Paris by night especially, fascinates him. The artificial lights of the city tear away to him tones of a rare violence, contrasts were pushed to their paroxysm.
However, South which gave him birth, recall him to its overwhelming sun, gobbling up colors more than it sublimates the intensity of each.
